About the news

The Russian Ministry of Economic Development is considering the possibility of creating a separate registry for scientific inventions and works of art developed using artificial intelligence (AI). According to the representative of the ministry, this register will be put into effect after January 5, 2025. The initiative is related to the provisions of the Law on Experimental Legal Regimes (EPR), which has been in force since 2020.

Vladimir Voloshin, Director of the Department of Digital Development and Data Economics at the Ministry of Economic Development, noted that the creation of the register will protect the rights to intellectual property created using AI technologies, against the background of a growing number of requests for testing of such technologies.

The result of intellectual activity (RID) is defined as an intangible commercial product, which covers all creative works, developments and inventions. In the context of AI, the REED must meet the criteria of uniqueness and creative contribution of a person.
